About MA SpLD
Recognised for its outstanding professional standing in the field of tertiary education and Specific Learning Differences (SpLD), the DAS Academy works in collaboration with the government, educational and professional bodies to enable students to achieve excellence in the support of people with learning differences in Singapore and the region. This programme aims to provide an understanding of the theoretical background to developmental and acquired specific learning differences and the assessment, teaching and counselling of SpLD learners. It will equip students to meet demands of future academic developments within education and training.
This programme offers a unique opportunity for continuing professional development and is designed to meet increasing demands for higher education in the field of specific learning differences.
The Master of Arts in Specific Learning Differences is validated by London Metropolitan University (UK).

What is Specific Learning Differences (SpLD)?
A specific learning difference encompasses a range of strengths and weaknesses that influences a person’s ability to acquire certain skills despite traditional instruction. The DAS Academy has adopted this definition as it advocates that all learners can be empowered to reach their full potential when provided with sound and effective learning strategies.
Upon successful completion of the programme students are equipped with:
- A body of knowledge and theories on SpLD
- The ability to assess learners with SpLD
- Knowledge and ability to teach a SpLD child or adult literacy and study skills
- A specialised expertise to support a SpLD learner in either Mathematics or use of IT
- An opportunity to produce research to improve services to SpLD learners in Singapore where there is limited body of local knowledge
Career Opportunities
The demand for specialist educators is ever-increasing and the MA (SpLD) provides the necessary knowledge and skills to support learners with SpLD. Graduates may be employed in the various educational agencies that support SpLD learners and may be employed as teachers, curriculum developers or trainers.
