TARGET PARTICIPANTS
Parents and caregivers with children between the ages of 7 to 12 (P1 to P6)

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
This workshop will give participants a better understanding of why learners with dyslexia find spelling difficult. Participants will be more aware of the skills and knowledge needed to spell English words, and the underlying principles of spelling instruction. Participants will gain skills in supporting learners with dyslexia to spell phonetic and non-phonetic words through a multi-sensory approach.

BRIEF COURSE CONTENT
Topics:

  1. Why learners with dyslexia find spelling difficult
  2. The knowledge and skills needed for spelling
  3. Underlying principles of spelling instruction
  4. Strategies for teaching the spelling of phonetic and non-phonetics words

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Appreciate the complexities of spelling and how spelling instruction can be useful for learners with dyslexia
  • Acquire knowledge and practical understanding in applying the spelling strategies effectively for learners with dyslexia

COURSE DELIVERY
DAS Academy will be delivering the workshop via dual-mode of learning; face-to-face or online via live-stream on Zoom. Please indicate your preferred mode of learning in the registration form. Please note that you will not be allowed to change your preference once the registration is completed.
