A strong believer in helping learners march to their own beat, Wei Teng has a strong passion in equipping educators and parents with the skills to engage and support learners with specific learning differences. As Wei Teng is also a picture book author and musical storyteller, she has collaborated with various organizations, including the National Library Board (Singapore), Scholastic Education International (Singapore), the Singapore Book Council, and the Asian Festival for Children’s Content (AFCC) to conduct workshops in the areas of reading and storytelling. She was previously a senior educational therapist at the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS), where she was part of the curriculum team in designing comprehensive frameworks for dyslexic students, focusing on speaking, listening, writing, and grammar, and training teachers in the use of these frameworks. She subsequently served as a literacy coach at NorthLight School and worked closely with at-risk teenagers from challenging or disadvantaged family backgrounds who struggle to read and write. She now runs her own educational consultancy studio, The Oak Planters that focuses on providing educational therapy and consultancy services to learners with dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties. A Fellow of the Register of Educational Therapists (Asia), Wei Teng holds an honours degree in Psychology (2 nd Upper Class) from the National University of Singapore and a Master of Arts in Teaching English to Young Learners (with distinctions) from the University of York (UK). She also obtained a Diploma in Dyslexia Studies from the DAS (Dyslexia Association of Singapore) and received comprehensive training in the Orton-Gillingham approach.
