About the Course

 

This course is designed to help educational therapists to improve their practical skills in preparing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for one-to-one intervention word with students who have Special Educational Needs or Additional Learning Needs. It is, therefore, suitable for specialist teachers who wish to enrich their current knowledge and practice of IEP planning.

Based on the Assessment, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation (APIE) Model, participants will be introduced to systematic practices at each stage so that each IEP is an effective “road-map” for intervention. This course takes a problem-solving approach so that participants understand how to prepare more effective IEPs.

This certificate assumes that participants have a basic understanding of psychological assessment reports and have some experience preparing IEPs.

*A prerequisite for this course is an ability to understand a psychological assessment report. 

 

Note: This course is suitable for teachers and educational professionals of special education needs who wish to enrich their current knowledge and practice in IEP planning.

 

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the module, participants will be able to:

  • Apply a problem-based approach to preparing IEPs for one-to-one intervention with SpLD learners.
  • Employ a variety of data collection instruments including tests to improve information gathering of the learner's profile and needs at the Assessment stage of the IEP planning process.
  • Construct measurable goals and objectives when writing the IEPs at the Planning stage.
  • Select observation and test tools to monitor the learner's progress towards IEP goals at the Implementation stage.
  • Formulate reflective questions to guide the systematic review of an IEP at the Evaluation stage.

 

COURSE DELIVERY

In view of the current Covid-19 situation in Singapore, all DAS Academy certificate courses will be conducted via live webcast only. While learning online, you can continue to participate actively in classroom activities through live video and chat functions in ZOOM.

 

METHOD OF ASSESSMENT

 

Participants are to undertake a case study and write a report on it. The case study will involve conducting a needs analysis on an SpLD learner and preparing an IEP based on his/her profile and needs. The IEP should also include appropriate tools for monitoring learner progress. Participants are to generate reflective questions that would be asked to guide a systematic review of the IEP that was planned.  

 

CERTIFICATION AWARDED

 

  • A Certificate of Achievement will be awarded to participants who attain at least 75% attendance and successfully pass the assessment.
  • A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to participants who attain at least 75% attendance but do not wish to undertake the assessment.

 

*Course will be postponed if the minimum number of participants is not met
