Parents, caregivers and educators who work with children between the ages of 7 to 12 (Primary 1-6).

 

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES

 

Children with specific learning disorders (SpLD) have difficulties in specific areas of learning, such as reading and writing. Difficulties in reading and writing often co-occur with vocabulary impairments, thus affecting the child's ability to express themselves confidently and effectively in both oral and written language. This workshop will address the importance of vocabulary instruction for SpLD learners and introduce caregivers to structured as well as friendly means of developing children's vocabulary.

1. The nature of SpLD and vocabulary impairments

2. The various levels of knowing a word

3. Formal mean of developing vocabulary instruction for academic learning

4. Friendly and fun mean of developing vocabulary instruction for daily oral skills
