TARGET PARTICIPANTS

 

Parents and caregivers who work with children between the ages of 7 to 12 (Primary 1-6).

 

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES

 

This workshop aims to help attendees understand the difficulties dyslexic children face when learning Chinese Language as a second language, as well as the nature and structure of Chinese character. Strategies for parents and caregivers to support their dyslexic children in learning Chinese will be shared in this workshop.

1. Research on dyslexia and Chinese language

2. Learning Chinese Language as a second language

3. Nature and structure of Chinese character

4. Building orthographic and morphological awareness, formation of stroke patters and oracy skills

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

 

  • Understand the dyslexic-type difficulties of learning Chinese Language as a second language
  • Gain knowledge on the nature and orthographic structures of Chinese characters
  • Gain practical strategies in supporting dyslexic learners in learning Chinese at home
