About the Course

COURSE LECTURERS
Jolene Pang

Executive functioning difficulties are commonly experienced by children with a range of other neurological conditions which include dyslexia, attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorders  (ASD). These children are often labelled as unmotivated, disorganized, scattered, forgetful, inattentive, and lacking in self-awareness. It is crucial that adults understand that these are signs of executive function deficits, and do not attribute or mistake them for a child’s character traits. This 15-hour course aims to empower practitioners and parents with practical knowledge and skills that are most relevant for supporting a child with executive function deficits in school and at home. Course participants will appreciate the executive functioning processes that are behind the successful execution of academic tasks and learn to support children who are lacking in those crucial processes, leading to their improved daily performance in school and at home.

The target audience may be a professional, educator or parent who needs an insight to executive function difficulties and the corresponding strategies to support children or teenagers in their areas of weakness in both the classroom and home setting.

Learners who may benefit from the strategies shared in the course include:

  • A younger learner with attention issues or difficulties in managing homework
  • An older learner who has difficulty in organising their school tasks

On successful completion of the module, participants will be able to:

  • Describe executive functioning and its components
  • Explain how executive functioning difficulties impact learning and behaviour
  • Analyse learning and behavioural challenges by examining how multiple factors interact and identifying underlying needs
  • Design targeted goals and plans to support children with executive function difficulties
  • Implement evidence-based strategies that build and support executive function development
  • Develop holistic and collaborative plans with stakeholders to reinforce support across settings

At DAS Academy, most of our courses are delivered through a blended learning approach that combines the best of both worlds—in-person classroom sessions and online live learning. Classroom sessions provide opportunities for rich interaction, collaboration, and hands-on engagement, while online live learning offers flexibility and convenience, allowing learners to learn anywhere.

  • Written examination (Open book)
  • Role-play (e.g., Guide a client to develop an action plan to support a child with executive function challenges)
  • A Certificate of Achievement will be awarded to participants who attain at least 75% attendance and successfully pass the assessment.
  • A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to participants who attain at least 75% attendance and do not wish to undertake the assessment.

*Course will be postponed if the minimum number of participants is not met.

After this Executive Function Course, I can now strategise and help my dyslexic son with his daily activities.
I never knew that my son is struggling daily and unmotivated due to lack of executive function.
I like this Executive Function Course because it empowers me to be confident in handling my son’s outbursts and managing his learning needs.
