Executive functioning difficulties are commonly observed in children with a range of neurodevelopmental profiles, including dyslexia, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). These difficulties are often misinterpreted as a lack of motivation, disorganisation, inattention, or poor self-awareness. For educators and practitioners, it is critical to recognise that such behaviours are not character traits, but manifestations of underlying executive function challenges.
This 15-hour course is designed to equip educators and allied professionals with a clear, practice-oriented understanding of executive functioning. Participants will develop insight into the cognitive processes that underpin successful task execution, including planning, attentional control, and task initiation.
Grounded in applied frameworks, the course supports participants in analysing student behaviours more accurately and designing targeted, evidence-informed strategies that can be implemented across educational and therapeutic contexts. By strengthening both understanding and intervention, participants will be better positioned to support children in improving their functional performance, independence, and engagement across settings.
This course is designed for educators and allied professionals (e.g., speech therapists, psychologists, social workers) who are seeking a deeper understanding of executive functioning and practical strategies to support children and adolescents across educational and therapeutic contexts.
Learners who may benefit from the strategies covered in this course include:
On successful completion of the module, participants will be able to:
