TARGET PARTICIPANTS
Educators, caregivers, and parents with children between the ages of 7 to 12 (P1 to P6)

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
The workshop aims to enable participants to explore the process of comprehension, as well as develop strategies and instructions that will aid the learner in deciphering a long text. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the difficulties that learners with dyslexia face incomprehension and be exposed to various strategies that are effective in building comprehension skills such as vocabulary building and recognising different types of questions.

BRIEF COURSE CONTENT
Topics:

  1. Understanding Reading Comprehension Impairment
  2. The reading comprehension process
  3. Effective reading strategies to support learners with dyslexia
  4. Building vocabulary skills to support understanding of reading comprehension passages
  5. Recognising question types.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Understand the difference between reading comprehension difficulty and reading comprehension impairment
  • Recognise why reading comprehension is difficult for learners with dyslexia
  • Acquire knowledge in reading strategies and develop a deeper understanding of tackling comprehension passages

COURSE DELIVERY
The workshop will be delivered online via live-stream on Zoom. While learning online, participants can continue to participate actively in classroom activities through live video and chat functions in zoom.
