ABOUT THE LECTURERS

TARGET PARTICIPANTS
Parents and caregivers of children between the ages of 7 to 12 (P1 to P6).

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
This workshop will allow participants to understand the importance of phonics instructions and phonological awareness, especially for learners with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia. Participants will be more aware of the various letter-sounds in the English language and the components of good phonics and phonological awareness instruction through a multi-sensory approach. This will equip participants in carrying out these activities in both home and school settings.

BRIEF COURSE CONTENT
Topics:

  1. The importance and principles of phonics instruction and phonological awareness
  2. Developing alphabet knowledge
  3. Letter recognition and letter-sound correspondence
  4. Strategies to support learners in phonics instruction and phonological awareness

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Appreciate the importance of phonics instruction and understand how it can help learners with dyslexia overcome their struggles in reading and spelling
  • Gain knowledge and practical skills in applying phonics instructions to support learners with dyslexia effectively

COURSE DELIVERY

The workshop will be delivered online via live-stream on Zoom. While learning online, participants can continue to participate actively in classroom activities through live video and chat functions in zoom.
