TARGET PARTICIPANTS

Parents and caregivers who work with children between the ages of 7 to 12 (Primary 1-6).

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
This workshop aims to help attendees understand the difficulties dyslexic children face when learning the Chinese Language as a second language, as well as the nature and structure of Chinese characters. Strategies for parents and caregivers to support their children with dyslexia in learning Chinese will be shared in this workshop.

BRIEF COURSE CONTENT
Topics:

  1. Research on dyslexia and the Chinese language
  2. Learning the Chinese Language as a second language
  3. Nature and structure of Chinese character
  4. Building orthographic and morphological awareness, the formation of stroke patters and oracy skills

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Understand the dyslexic-type difficulties of learning the Chinese Language as a second language
  • Gain knowledge on the nature and orthographic structures of Chinese characters
  • Gain practical strategies in supporting learners with dyslexia in learning Chinese at home

COURSE DELIVERY

The workshop will be delivered online via live-stream on Zoom. While learning online, participants can continue to participate actively in classroom activities through live video and chat functions in zoom.
