This workshop will cover both the theoretical and practical aspects of supporting learners with learning difficulties in solving Maths word problems using heuristics and other problem-solving approaches. Participants will become aware of how the Mathematical Problem Solving Framework shapes the Maths curriculum and the struggles that learners with learning difficulties have with Maths word problems. Beyond theoretical content, the workshop will also introduce participants to the various heuristics and problem-solving approaches needed to solve common Maths word problems at the upper primary level. Participants will also be given some hands-on practice on how to apply these strategies to solve similar word problems.
