About the Course

This course equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills to support children’s development, behaviour, and engagement in educational settings. Participants will explore key theories of child development and learning and examine how these inform classroom practices.

They will learn to identify causes and functions of children’s behaviour using structured tools, apply differentiation strategies, and remove barriers to enhance motivation and participation.

Emphasising a strength-based approach, the course provides techniques to connect with and positively redirect children. Learners will also gain proficiency in using a problem analysis framework to gather information, develop collaborative action plans, and evaluate outcomes alongside transdisciplinary teams and relevant stakeholders.

This course is designed for professionals and practitioners in the education, disability, and social service sectors who work with learners with special educational needs (SEN) or additional learning needs. It equips participants with the knowledge and practical strategies to better understand, support, and empower diverse learners across different settings.

By the end of the course , learners will be able to:

  1. Understand how the theories of child development, motivation and learning impact on educational settings.
  2. Identify possible causes and functions of children’s behaviour using various tools.
  3. Apply frameworks of differentiation and barrier identification to improve children’s
    engagement and motivation.
  4. Apply a strength-based approach in the interactions with children.
  5. Apply a framework to analyse behaviour, create action plans and evaluate outcomes in collaboration with the transdisciplinary team and relevant stakeholders.

At DAS Academy, most of our courses are delivered through a blended learning approach that combines the best of both worlds—in-person classroom sessions and online live learning. Classroom sessions provide opportunities for rich interaction, collaboration, and hands-on engagement, while online live learning offers flexibility and convenience, allowing learners to learn anywhere.
