Improving Your Child’s Concentration Span

Share

Are your kids often distracted from their work? Do you have to repeatedly remind them to study without much success? Worry no more. Here are some tips to help your child be less distracted and concentrate better.
  1. Initiate a routine When a child has a routine, it eventually becomes a habit and they will be able to distribute their time efficiently and pay close attention to the task that has to be completed within each time slot.
  2. Ensure that they are not burnt out Everyone needs a break from time to time and there is no exception for children. It is suitable for children to rest their eyes and perhaps, go out for some physical activity for 30 minutes every 2 to 3 hours so that they can fully concentrate on their work after they have rejuvenated their minds.
  3. Create goals for them It would be good to encourage them to set goals for themselves so that they are more likely to achieve them as they would be more committed.
  4. Dish the compliments Children may not necessarily get it right the first time as they are struggling with deadlines and schedules. This makes it difficult for them to complete their homework within the allocated time. However, it is important to praise them in every step of their progress and encourage them so that they will feel more motivated to move forward and do better next time.
  5. Create a conducive learning environment Children are easily distracted and it is important to ensure that their learning environment has minimal distractions and is organised, not cluttered.
  6. Implement different methods Every child will need a different method to stay focused. You need to be able to observe your child closely and have a better understanding of which method would be suitable for their learning. It can be as simple as listening to a piece of classical music when studying or setting a timer for each task.
